Tack House
Listed Building Extension and Conversion in Winchester
This project is the extension and conversion of a listed single storey former tack room into a two bedroom house. This listed building extension negotiated a difficult site with numerous issues, including overlooking and large differences between existing on-site levels.
A new second storey extension sits above the existing tack house, and another new build two storey component sits to the rear of the site. These two elements are connected via a single storey link and an internal private courtyard. The building lies below a tall retaining wall and is therefore very discreet when viewed from the slope above.
The internal treatment and material palette is contemporary, with glazed steel screens opening into the secluded courtyard and the use of timber and glass. The external appearance has been carefully considered to respond to the Grade II listed main house, St John’s Croft.
