The Guildhall, Winchester
The project is founded on a bequeathment from Lady Bapsy Pavry, The Dowager Marchioness of Winchester who provided a substantial sum for the purposes of improving access and upgrading the Winchester City Guildhall for the citizens of Winchester.
The project consists of a series of interventions and renovations in the historic fabric of the Grade II listed building. A new entrance, lift and reception allow disabled access to all floors of the building. The remodelling and extension of the staircase simplifies the circulation and frees space for new rooms. The front facade has been opened up at grounds level for a new entrance and cafe, which is allowed to spill out onto the boulevard helping to break the formality of the building. The King Alfred Hall has be returned to its former splendour through careful restoration.
