Braybrooke Road, Hasting
The site is well located in the centre of Hasting with extensive views but is steeply sloping and had in the past accommodated a car showroom.
The proposal is for 10 houses and 12 apartments. The site adjacent to a block of existing three storey terrace houses in a residential area. The design responds to the immediate context as well as to the broader character of the town, with a form that references the distinctive shore front fisherman’s net houses. The roof shapes also help the buildings respond to the change in levels, while gaps between the blocks maintain wider views through the site.
A pallet of high-quality materials breakup the overall form of the large three storey blocks, while the rear elevations take full advantage of the elevated views with extensive glazing and sheltered balconies.
